Matthias Kleinhempel served as a fulltime professor at IAE Business School from 1999 to 2002. In Marchi 2009 he rejoined IAE, where he currently teaches at MBA and the Excecutive Education programs and serves as Academic Director of several international programs.
He holds an MBA from IAE Business School and a Law Degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany. His research focuses on corporate governance, good business practices, compliance program rollouts, regional strategies, and the organization of international companies in Latin America.
He worked as a lawyer specializing in insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings in Germany and as advisor to foreign investors in Argentina. He also served in a number of positions at Siemens: he was President and CEO of Siemens Venezuela and simultaneously CFO for Siemens in the Andean Region; President of the Cables Division, with responsibility for the worldwide business; and CEO and President of Siemens in Argentina, simultaneously serving as CFO in the Mercosur Region.
He is the City of Hamburg's honorary representative (HamburgAmbassador) in Argentina. He serves as a member of the Board of the Argentine-German University Center, and FUNDES Argentina. He is also part of the UN-PRME Working Group on Anti-Corruption: "Developing Anti Corruption Guidelines for Curriculum Change".
He has served as President of the Argentine-German Chamber of Commerce, as Vice President of the EU Business Group in Argentina and as President of IAE's Alumni Association.

Matthias Kleinhempel was born in 1952 in Hamburg, Germany. He finished high
school there, graduating later in Law at the Universities of Hamburg and Bonn,
Germany.
In 1991 he obtained his Master’s degree with an MBA at the IAE’s Business
School of the Austral University in Argentina.
Mr. Kleinhempel began his professional carrier as a lawyer in Hamburg. In
1981 he worked as an advisor for several foreign investors in Argentina with
Mandry Berisso. From 1982 to 1986, he has been partner of Otthinrich Mueller and
Associates, in Hamburg, a law firm with focus on insolvencies and bankruptcy
proceedings.
In 1986 he returned to Argentina, where he joined the Siemens local
subsidiary as an intern and later as a lawyer in the Legal Department of the
company.
In 1990, he was appointed General Counsel, while also serving as
advisor to the company’s Board. Afterwards he returned to Germany, this time to
Munich, where he coordinated between 1991 and 1994 the relationship of Siemens
AG and the subsidiaries in Canada, Mexico, Central America, Colombia and
Venezuela.
In 1994 he took office as CFO of Siemens Venezuela. In 1996 he was
appointed CEO of Siemens Venezuela, and simultaneously CFO for Siemens in the
Andean Region (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela). In 1997, he returned to
Germany as CFO and shortly after as President of the Power Cable Division,
holding responsibility for the worldwide business.
He left Siemens in December 1998 and returned to Argentina.
From 1999 to 2002 he served as a full time professor at IAE Business School
in Argentina.
In 2002, he was appointed as President and CEO for Siemens in Argentina,
and simultaneously as CFO for the Mercosur Region (Brazil, Argentina, Chile,
Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia).
He resigned in 2008 in order to return to his academic activities at IAE
Business School and Consultant.

Mr. Kleinhempel is Vice President of the EU Business Group in Argentina. He
served as President of the Argentine-German Chamber of Commerce and as the
IAE’s Alumni Association.
